Others won’t know you by your Likes
Have you heard of FOMO? It’s a real thing. In fact, FOMO—Fear Of Missing Out, #fomo—was just added to the latest edition of a popular English language dictionary. There’s an entire generation of people who are constantly worried they’re going to miss something. With the accessibility technology and social media provide, they feel pressured to stay connected all the time.
But ask yourself: at the end of your life, is it really going to matter how many Likes you got? Do you honestly believe that you’re going to be lying on your deathbed one day, wishing you’d posted another funny cat video?
Going through trials
Why does God allow us to go through trials…particularly trials of longer length?
Look at and consider Deuteronomy 8:1-11.
The Bible shares with us that there are valid purposes for trials:
1. To humble us
2. To test us
3. To know what is in our hearts
4. To reveal whether we will keep God’s commandments or not
5. To humble us to reveal what we hunger for, whether it be good or bad
6. To show us our great need for God’s Word
7. To show us His provision
8. So we will know in our hearts that God loves us and cares enough about us to discipline us as His own—just as a loving parent disciplines his own son
9. As motivation to “keep the commandments of the LORD your God, to walk in His ways and to fear Him”
10. To applicably teach us how to walk in His ways and to fear Him Continue reading “Going through trials” →
Loving God means doing what He says
BREAKDOWN: In high school I had to obey a lot of my mother’s rules. I had to wash dishes after school, take the garbage to the trash chute in the hallway (we lived in the projects), clean the bathroom, complete all my homework before hanging out and a million other things she had me do. Because I loved her, it was easy for me to do what she asked of me.

WHAT IS LOVE

WHAT IS LOVE
18“ ‘Do not seek revenge or bear a grudge against anyone among your people, but love your neighbor as yourself. I am the Lord
– Leviticus 19:18
Don’t stay upset or be angry with anyone, but instead love them as you love yourself. Because I am God and I say so.
BREAKDOWN: In college, I had a friend that was very close to me, but one day he ended up owing me money. Now, before this time, we had been through everything together and would do anything for each other, but this money situation made all of that change. I will admit that I was salty with him because it wasn’t a small amount of money I had given him, but I also realized that the unpaid loan wasn’t worth holding a grudge against this friend. I mean, it wasn’t like I was faultless. There were plenty of times he had forgiven me for something and moved on.
